Instead of trying to tackle this question head on, breaking it down into more manageable pieces may prove to provide a superior understanding to the answer of this question.
I think the idea of living in a hobbit hole would be a good way to continue city expansion possibly without taking up too much extra land but instead building another city with this hobbit holes under the already existing city. If this option is indeed geotechnically sound. This idea is neat; however, I would be terrified of living in a house underground, I am extremely claustrophobic and would be concerned of the amount of light and windows. I think there would be fairly easy construction techniques that you could apply in order to ensure this hobbit hole is light enough instead and large enough in order to make everyone feel comfortable living underground. Just some concerns I thought of while looking at your blog. Continue the good work!
Hey Casey http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy.tru.ca/docview/275290605 The above link is an article about a couple who decided to build an underground home. It will not give you Hobbit Hole information, but however, it does give valuable insight into the pros, cons, and trade offs that came with their experience living in a underground house. This should hopefully provide you with useful and accurate information for comparison purposes between hobbit holes and underground houses. Happy blogging!
Perhaps this technology would make building a Hobbit hole easier? http://concretecanvas.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link! wonder how tough it would be to install windows...
ReplyDeletePerhaps they could be cut out after? It might be worth contacting the company to find out. I think there is a local distributor in the Vancouver area.
