  1. hello Casey,
here is a link to a guy who built his own house for very cheap and low environmental impact. this proves that you dont always have to use man made building materials such as concrete and steel to build a earth home.

  2. Hey Casey, I like the underground housing idea. I was just checking out your wall detail and was wondering what type of water proofing would work best for something like this? I was thinking you could use a system similar to how ICF is waterproofed, perhaps peel and stick with a dimpled membrane. And how would the ceiling/roof be waterproofed? Keep up the good work man I'm digging it!

  3. this is actually one of the major problems with underground housing, floods. And I'm not sure what would work best but some of the books I've read suggested to use either Rubberized asphalt, can be applied directly to the walls and roof and it last a long time, or Plastic/vulcanized sheets also seem to be pretty popular.
As for the ceiling/roof, that portion is usually designed to overhang just like an above surface building. the hang lets what moisture and water it collects to run off into the backfill as opposed to the wall of your building.
